Perched high on the rugged Aravalli Hills, overlooking the Pink City, Nahargarh Fort is one of Jaipur’s most stunning and strategic historical sites. Unlike the grandeur of Amer Fort or the elegance of City Palace, Nahargarh has a quiet, rugged charm — a place where you can feel the wind in your hair and the weight of history in the stone.

🏰 A Glimpse into History
Built in 1734 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, the founder of Jaipur, Nahargarh (meaning “Abode of Tigers”) was originally constructed as a retreat and defensive outpost. The fort was later expanded in the 19th century by Sawai Ram Singh, adding royal suites and ornate interiors.
Legend has it that the fort was haunted by the spirit of a prince named Nahar Singh Bhomia, whose restless ghost disrupted construction — until a temple was built in his name. Spooky or not, the name stuck!

This palace complex within the fort has 12 identical suites built for the queens, with one central suite for the king. The rooms are connected by corridors and beautifully decorated with frescoes and murals. It’s a quiet maze of history that feels frozen in time.

Located on the western edge of the fort, Padao is an open-air restaurant where you can sip a chai or a cold drink while watching the sun dip behind the Aravallis. The entry fee includes one drink and access to one of Jaipur’s best views.
